Excellent refresher
It's difficult to say anything negative about this book; although I wish the Kindle edition had offered a digital download of the CD the author talks about. The practice tests and chapter review questions are useful.
I enjoyed the author's writing style and I can say this was a fairly easy book to read. My testing experience was one where the questions asked by the author were either identical or more complex than the tests and I passed both with scores at or above 860.
Very good choise
I'm already using it 2 weeks ago and the information is very complete and Update. When I finish it I'll get the Network + book.
Regards.
Passed exam
The only thing I can judge this is if it helped me pass my exam.
I passed, so I guess I can't give negative feedback
A good book, but not the only thing you need
Is Mike Meyer's book a good one? Yes. Is it the only thing you need to pass the A+ tests? No.
I would not have passed the tests without it, but if I had relied solely on it I would have bombed out. On the Essentials test there were many test questions where my experience with computers filled in the blanks. For the Practical, I used Meyers's book along with another, and am really glad I did.
The CD is a nice addition. The practice tests were very useful, although don't take their answers as final since there are some incorrect answers. The training video was good, although a bit basic.
Meyers does a good job explaining the background and basics of computer technology, but there are some things on the test that are not in the book. So get this book, it WILL help; but make sure you augment it with other material.
Great book for newcomers and those who just need a refesher.
Great book, used its review questions to find out the areas I was weak in studied over the chapters I was rusty in or did little work in such as printers, scheduled both test for the same day. Went passed with flying colors... I really like how the test breaks down the areas and you can see you need to look over and study chapter 7 or what have you... that way you can focus on the areas you need to spend the most time in and skim the areas you are familiar with. For someone who isn't in the IT field yet they want to spend more time in each chapter, but I've been working in IT for years and never needed it until recently since our company started requiring it... most of it was stuff I do every day but monitors and printers were my weaker areas... but honestly I don't know of anyone who doesn't trash a monitor and buy a new one... however they cover working on them as well as printers in detail... so its great for those of us who know most of it and is full of info for those are just getting started.
