Customer Reviews

A good budget-priced introduction to Madness

Rating

This slightly-misleadingly titled collection, that provides a good budget-priced introduction into the band's ska-influenced pop, is just one of a plethora of compilations that have been released by the band. It was the first, and remains one of the better ones currently available. The focus of its 16 tracks is upon the earliest and arguably most creatively successful phase of the band's ongoing career [1979-1982]. It includes fun and familiar tunes with which they found fame - `Baggy Trousers', `House Of Fun' and `One Step Beyond'. And with the likes of the melancholic `My Girl', a romantic cover of Labi Siffre's `It Must Be Love', and the racially-aware `Embarrassment' it demonstrated that their was much more to the them than just catchy, jaunty songs and their `Nutty Boys' public image.

Great band

Rating

No question: Madness have been a great band, with a nice blend of pop and ska, and that witty touch. My favourite is "my girl" because so well it manages to describe how it felt when I had a argument with my girlfriend.

Had this album on vinyl for years and it is a classic. Some of the top tunes madness have released now on c/d to play anywhere

Madness are celebrating 30 years this year and are coming to the Isle of Wight to do a concert. I very quickly went and bought the tickets, followed by the album - an all time fun group, the best!! The album is fantastic, no doubt - so will the concert be

Madness, it makes complete sense... Great fun!

Surprises, my son heard it and now plays it all the time for himself!
