Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
The beat that got a generation dancing and brought ska back into the public eye. Produced by Elvis Costello, then still a boy wonder himself, the album built on the sound of the Specials' first two singles, and gave the world its first extended look at Two Tone. Inspired writing and arranging (much of it down to founder Jerry Dammers) with Terry Hall as the laconic front man made for a perfect combination, the riddim of ska and the speed of punk. As a testament to its power, two decades haven't lessened its impact. --Chris Nickson

Classic
Great vinyl by The Specials. A lot of my fav songs on this record which is why i bought it. Gets me in the mood to go out.
One of my favourite albums ever!
My dad got me into The Specials when I was about 10/11 years old.
Now at 17 I think I'm a bigger fan than he is!
This is probably one of the best albums I've ever listened to. I went through a period of time last summer where Ska was all I listened to and believe me, this was on the top of my list of most played album.
This is the kind of album I NEVER get tired of listening to; it makes me think I was born in the wrong decade for music and makes me wish we had bands like The Specials around today.
Amazing album and totally worth getting if you've just discovered the joys of Ska.
This will wipe that blank expression off your face (4.5 Stars)
If anyone owns 'The Best Of The Specials' (2008) then you might be thinking that that's enough for me. Well, think again! Because you'll be seriously missing out on the joy of discovering some other real gems, including: 'Do The Dog' and '(Dawning Of A) New Era' (it's the life affirming burst of energy that these two tracks provide), plus the intense build up to 'Too Hot' about Rude Boys carrying guns. Overall, a great album so "do the dog not the donkey" and order yourself a copy now!
Excellent.
The Specials at their peak. A good CD at a good price. I might almost go so far as to say "must have".
There are some that say that this music doesn't "travel" or "date" well. I say "poppycock". Do not confuse (for better or for worse) with Madness!
