Editorial Reviews

Album Description

Comedian, actor, author, and banjo player Steve Martin releases his first musical recording since 1978's number 1 hit "King Tut." This is no novelty record though. It's some of the best banjo music to come down the pike in a long time. The Crow features able assistance from some of Steve's pals, including Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, Earl Scruggs, Bela Fleck, Tim O'Brien and Mary Black. Martin wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on this album, creating a new body of work that will stand alongside the classics for years to come.

Excellent CD. I was anticipating the delivery of The Crow, couldn't wait. I saw Steve Martin @ the Bonnaroo festival this year and he was fantastic.

Fabulous album with many original pieces by Steve Martin and wonderful musicianship by him as well.

Great music!

I consider Steve Martin a creative genius. This album proves he is as talented as a musician as he is writer and actor. He has a real gift for melody and harmony and uses the banjo masterfully in this collection of original songs.I particularly love 'Daddy Played the Banjo' and 'Hoedown at Alice's'.

That banjo player who never had a kid

Here we have an album of banjo music by Steve Martin. Some may think that this is his first music album, but The Steve Martin Brothers was half bluegrass music. In fact, five of the songs from this album originally appeared on that album (in different versions). Martin wrote or co-wrote all the songs here, with the exception of one medley of traditional songs. He plays the banjo really well, although he himself would never admit it. The songs are very good, and Steve is ably assited by his professional musician friends. A very entertaining album.

Absolutely wonderful bluegrass!!

Stumbled across this CD while idly surfing the net, and since it combines two of my favorite things: Steve Martin and the 5 string banjo, I ordered it. Delivered in only a few days, it has more than met my expectations, and I am positively mesmerized by it! Steve Martin is an amazing individual, and this CD is a tribute to his musical artistry. It is a truly timely adaptation of traditional bluegrass music to up-to-date themes, and I highly recommend it to any fan of country/bluegrass music.
